Webinar: Health Equity Learnings from COVID-19 and Beyond

November 3, 2022 @ 8:30 am - 9:30 am

COVID-19 brought to our collective consciousness the grave health disparities that have existed in the United States for decades. Black, Latinx, and Indigenous Americans died from COVID-19 at disproportionately high rates, in part due to the greater prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, and obesity in these groups. These disparities illuminated a much larger problem, where disease and treatment are not equally experienced, and where social circumstance can have a devastating impact on outcomes. Further complicating the care divide is the realization that communities are not monoliths; each community has unique needs, and strategies that mitigate a barrier in one community may not be helpful in another. By applying the rigor of data science alongside the understanding of human science, we can further articulate and address the barriers preventing equitable care and improve outcomes for all.
