How did you decide to have a career in the healthcare industry?
I decided to pursue a career in healthcare management during my junior year of high school. I have had my own very intensive experience with the healthcare industry, having had surgery for scoliosis my freshman year of high school. Upon researching different roles within healthcare, I stumbled upon healthcare management. This industry provides so many different opportunities and is so diverse. There is always something new to learn and adapt to.
What has contributed to your success?
I would say there are many things that have contributed to my success thus far. First being the connections I have made, and something that ties into that is my willingness to pursue new opportunities. When something presents itself, I am usually willing to jump right in. This has allowed me to have many different experiences and opportunities across the healthcare field and has led to long-lasting connections. You never know what volunteer event you went to, what organization you took part in, what project you worked on, etc. will turn into a new opportunity for you that you never saw coming.
How long have you been an NESHS member?
I have been a student member since April 2017. I originally was tasked with doing a social media proposal, looking at the current state of NESHS’s social media presence and making recommendations on how to move forward. Since then, I have grown to become the co-chair of the marketing committee and a member of the board.
How has NESHS membership helped you?
NESHS has helped me in so many different ways. It first gave me a space to grow and become more involved in a professional organization. Since my early days as a member, I have made so many close connections and mentors to look up to. It has given me a passion for strategic planning and strategic thinking, which can be applied to so many different roles within our industry.
What’s on your bucket list?
I would love to go on an international backpacking trip. In the short term, this summer one thing I really want to accomplish is hiking Mount Katahdin in Maine.
Guilty pleasure: what can you not live without?
Iced coffee… no matter the temperature or season I will be drinking it.
