Allison McCarthy has 20 years of health care management experience with 10 years of prior clinical experience in dental hygiene. Her expertise in physician relations, tertiary outreach and network development,

physician recruitment, practice development and management and strategic marketing has brought many successful new programs from development to implementation for the organizations she served. With a specific professional emphasis in medical staff development, Ms. McCarthy has facilitated the start-up of numerous in-house recruitment programs and practice development support services on behalf of the hospitals and health systems in which she served and consulted. Additionally, she has worked with a variety of clients to establish effective tools for tracking and measuring both physician relations and recruitment success.

In addition to her consulting practice, Allison is frequent speaker, presenting at conferences sponsored by the Forum for Health Strategists, AHA-SHSMD, Medical Group Management Association, the American Academy of Medical Management and the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters’ national and regional meetings. She is the author of A Practice Development Primer and editor of MD Recruiter Update in addition to publishing white papers and articles for several health care journals, newsletters and other publications.

Prior to establishing Barlow/McCarthy, she was Managing Consultant with Corporate Health Group and held positions within both a community hospital and academic medical center focused on hospital-physician strategies. She also brought her relationship management and new program development experience to the Massachusetts Hospital Association with positions in regional council management and grassroots campaign organizational development.

Ms. McCarthy has an MBA with a concentration in health care management from Boston University and a Bachelor of Science degree in health care management from Northeastern University.
